My artist statement
My work primarily focuses on the human form and abstractions or interpretations of that form. I use acrylic paint and mixed media, especially paper and newspaper, to execute my vision. Through my work, I aim to emphasize the importance of pattern, shape, and textures both implied and actual. I am inspired by movement, the social environment that I live in, and the beauty that is the Black diaspora. The purpose of my work is to highlight that beauty and to draw attention to the social prominence and plight of the Black community. I believe that there is power in art and artistic expression and I want my art to tell the stories of my people in order to share with viewers some insight into our experiences.
