As we approach October, the weather is only getting cooler, or if you live in the midwest, like me, more freezing! So, I like to combat the cold by layering my clothes. Modeled by the beautiful, Isadora, here are three outfits that I styled, emphasizing the power of layering in creating killer looks!
GRL PWR

This outfit is all about using layers to turn a casual look into one that's a little more edgy and intriguing. At its core, the outfit is very simple: jeans, a graphic tee, a hat, and sneakers. However, in putting the outfit together, I made very specific choices to take this casual concept to the next level.

Isadora is wearing a graphic tee under a sheer, sparkly top; this is a great way to create an interesting filter over the tee. I paired checkered Vans with this look because they add another graphic element , and the white accents on the shoes complement Isadora's white t-shirt. I chose the large western-style belt to highlight the metallic sparkles in Isadora's top and to add some more character to the overall look.

Since the goal of this look was to upgrade a casual outfit, instead of a baseball cap, I put Isadora in a black newsboy hat. The hat creates a different tone to the outfit (a little more fashion forward) and is a great fall/winter accessory. Finally, the look is completed with a quilted bomber jacket.
Cozy

The foundation for this outfit is a Canadian tuxedo (all the way down to the shoes!). Apart from layering, I wanted to focus on another characteristic of this look: weight, or in other words, size. I put Isadora in an oversized jean top and layered it with an oversized turtleneck. The sweater adds a nice textural element to the denim look; its cute, Cozy, and great for the cold weather! But the top half of the outfit is very heavy and dense, so I wanted to play with weight by slimming down the rest of Isadora's outfit. That slimming effect is achieved with the skinny jeans and pointy toe heels. The look is completed with simple jewelry - gold earrings to bring some warmer color tones to the outfit.

Flight Crew

Flight Crew is another exploration in weight - heavy, oversized pieces juxtaposed with more form-fitting ones. I paired Isadora's camo cargo pants with a bodysuit and layered that with a cropped hoodie. I then layered the hoodie with a longline bomber jacket. The boxiness of the jacket and the heaviness of the top and bottom half of Isadora's outfit, essentially create a frame around her torso, therefore emphasizing the smallest part of her, her waist. I chose the all-white Nike Air Force 1s to highlight the white lettering on Isadora's hoodie. Finally, to add another slimming aspect to the look, I had Isadora wear a thick velvet choker.

I love this outfit because it is a great combination of a tomboy vibe and feminine edge. If you love this chic/tomboy look too, check out @alealimay on Instagram, I think she's perfected this style.
